The guesthouse offers 24-hour reception. In-person check-in is available until 5:00 p.m.; arrivals after this time must be arranged in advance. Guests are kindly asked to observe quiet hours from 8:00 p.m.

Early arrivals from 9:00 a.m. and late check-outs until 3:00 p.m. may be available at no extra cost, subject to suite availability. Please reserve at least one day in advance. For babies up to 2 years old, cribs are available upon prior request.

ABOUT ACCESS, CHECK-IN, AND CHECK-OUT

Check-in: from 2:00 PM, completed in person at the reception desk (open 24 hours). Photo identification for all guests must be submitted up to 72 hours in advance, in accordance with data protection regulations. All guests will be identified at the reception upon arrival. If you plan to arrive after 5:00 PM, please inform us in advance.

Check-out: by 12:00 PM. You may check out as late as 3:00 PM at no extra cost, provided there is no new guest scheduled for the same room. When leaving, please return the keys to the reception, turn off all equipment, and dispose of trash properly. If you check out more than 30 minutes late without prior arrangement, an additional daily rate will be charged.

THE LENÇÓIS MARANHENSES

The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (PNLM) encompasses the municipality of Barreirinhas and was established in June 1981. It covers an area of 155,000 hectares, with 90,000 hectares consisting of moving white sand dunes and seasonal lagoons formed by rainwater.

Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Bonita are among the largest in the region, featuring natural pools with crystal-clear water. The park includes restinga areas, expanses of moving dunes, and a long stretch of coastline, attracting visitors from around the world throughout the year.

Barreirinhas, the most well-known city in the Lençóis Maranhenses region, is located 250 km from São Luís, the capital of Maranhão, and serves as the main gateway for those looking to explore the area.

Strong, steady winds: Trade winds from the Atlantic Ocean shape the dunes, which are in constant motion, creating a landscape that is always changing.

Abundant rain in the first half of the year: During the rainy season, the valleys between the dunes fill with fresh, clear water, forming the park’s famous lagoons.

Proximity to rivers and mangroves: The interaction with other ecosystems supports a remarkable diversity of species in the region.

Fascinating facts about Lençóis Maranhenses:

Temporary lagoons and fleeting life: The lagoons in Lençóis Maranhenses are not permanent! They appear during the rainy season (usually from January to June) when water collects between the impermeable dunes. As the rains cease and evaporation increases, many lagoons dry up—only to appear again the following year.

Resilient fish: Despite their isolation, some species of fish survive in these freshwater lagoons. One theory suggests that their eggs endure the dry period in moist mud, hatching when the waters return. Another possibility is that birds carry eggs attached to their legs. This highlights the incredible adaptability of life in such a challenging environment!

The dance of the dunes: The dunes are constantly on the move! Driven by strong winds, especially during the dry season, they change position, creating new shapes and revealing or hiding lagoons. The scenery is ever-changing, and no two visits are ever the same.

A desert with water: Although it resembles a desert, Lençóis Maranhenses receives significant rainfall during the wet season. This rare combination of abundant water and strong winds forms the stunning lagoons seen throughout the region.

Influence of the Preguiças River: The Preguiças River, which borders the western side of the park, plays a vital role in forming Lençóis Maranhenses by transporting sediments inland. When these sediments reach the sea, the winds reshape them into the dunes that line the coast.

TRANSPORTATION

By plane: Barreirinhas Airport (BRB) receives regular flights from Azul (three times per week during high season). Alternative option: São Luís Airport (SLZ) plus a 4-hour transfer via BR-135/MA-402.

Transfer: We offer complimentary transfers from Barreirinhas Airport to the guesthouse (please check schedule and availability). Transfer from São Luís is available for an additional fee.

Getting around Barreirinhas: Taxis, quad bikes, and authorized 4x4 vehicles are available for park tours. Complimentary parking is provided at the guesthouse.
